In 1990, he successfully co-ordinated and staged an International GIS Symposium that focused on computerised Geographical Information Systems and their use in environmental management. For the last 7 years of his career with the Department of Lands, Nick was a member of the senior management team at head office, including the development of a state-wide strategic initiative establishing single point of sale outlets for improved access to state-wide land information data sets. He also negotiated strategic and commercial alliances between State and Local Government resulting in major cost reductions and improved service delivery plus initiated the introduction of “Rural Street Addressing” in Queensland; invaluable in providing an improved property address network for the operations of essential services in the state.
